The Hummer Racing team won the Sportsman Truck Class of the Baja 1000 early
Saturday morning, November 6th. After completing only one lap around the course the team
had already outdone the competition with driver team Doug Granger and
Richard Czerlau completing the first lap in 15.5 hours. Dean Johnston and
Mark Lehman took over as the second pair of drivers after Checkpoint #1,
heading into the cold and dark desert night to start the second and final
lap. Driving one of the roughest Baja courses ever, Dale and Angie Vranckx,
the last driver team, took control of the Hummer at 8:30 AM to bring it
through the finish line.
The Hummer Racing team received its First Place trophy at a special ceremony
November 6, 1999.
