Panasonic Canada enters famed Baja 1000 off-road race with Canadian Hummer team

MISSISSAUGA, Ont., (October 21, 1999) -- Panasonic Canada today announced its sponsorship of the Panasonic High Definition Hummer in this year's Baja 1000, North America's toughest off- road race, with the St. Williams, Ontario based team of Odyssey International. The event takes place on Mexico's rugged Baja Peninsula, November 4-6, 1999.

The six-driver team's AM General Hummer, including 1998 Baja winner Dale Vranckx and wife Angeline, will be fitted with the latest Panasonic DVCPRO digital broadcast technology. VBS Productions of Brantford is producing a one-hour High Definition Television documentary of the event for broadcast early next year.

In addition, more than 15 vehicle functions including electronic fuel injection, shock temperatures and engine RPMs will be monitored onboard and analyzed by the service crew using Panasonic's TOUGHBOOK CF-25 TM ruggedized notebook computers. Global positioning systems (GPS) will pinpoint the course locations of the Hummer within 10 metres throughout the 1000 kilometre event.       MORE >>>
